Music may prevent cognitive decline

Aging is associated with progressive cognitive decline. However, practicing and listening to music may prevent cognitive decline by stimulating the production of grey matter.


Participants in a study either learned to play an instrument or had active listening lessons. The results revealed an increase in grey matter which is associated with brain plasticity and cognitive reserve.
